About Me…

Evan Dekens is a teacher, writer, and author of Anatomies of Disappearance, winner of April Gloamings Apogee Chapbook prize.

He’s received degrees in English and Education from Montclair State University and studied in the MFA program at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

His poetry, criticism, and reviews have appeared or are forthcoming in Film Matters, Public Books, The Humanities Review, and April Gloaming.

For the past three years he’s worked in several educational programs in Newark, NJ, focusing on increasing college enrollment, literacy, and community-building in comprehensive and magnet High Schools. He now teaches High-School English and Creative Writing full-time and serves as a graduate assistant for the Race and Regency Lab.
